On the 3rd April 2025 the UK reached a profound milestone in public safety. Martyn’s Law, officially the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 – received Royal Assent, meaning the legislation has now formally become law, paving the way for its phased implementation across the UK. It marks the culmination of years of tireless campaigning by Figen Murray OBE following the loss of her son, Martyn, in the 2017 Manchester Arena attack. Through her extraordinary resolve, a new chapter begins – one where safety and preparedness are no longer optional, but expected. For venues, this isn’t just a change in law. It’s a shift in mindset. A chance to put protection at the centre of every event.

A Law Built to Support, Not Burden

Rather than being a set of punitive rules, Martyn’s Law has been designed to help venue operators, not hinder them. It introduces proportionate responsibilities based on venue size, recognising that a local theatre or leisure centre has very different needs to a stadium.

What it offers is clarity, structure, and support:

  • Training for staff so they know what to do if the worst should happen.
  • Plans in place to respond and protect the people on-site.
  • Assessments that identify vulnerabilities before they’re exploited.

It empowers teams – from front-of-house to security personnel – with the confidence that they’re prepared.

Giving Confidence to the Public

This law is not just about operational protocols. It’s about people. Every visitor, performer, contractor, or staff member who walks through a venue’s doors deserves to know that safety has been thought about – and planned for. Martyn’s Law will help give venues the tools to create safer spaces. And in turn, it gives the public the confidence to keep showing up, knowing that those responsible for the event have taken their duty of care seriously.

A Global Message of Preparedness

While this legislation applies to UK venues, the message it carries is universal: Preparedness saves lives.

Venues and organisers around the world can look to Martyn’s Law as a framework. It shows what’s possible when government, industry, and campaigners work together. It proves that change is possible – and that it’s worth pursuing.

What Comes Next

For venue owners and event operators, this is a moment to reflect – but also to act. Martyn’s Law will be rolled out with support and guidance. It’s not about getting everything perfect overnight. It’s about building a culture of security, step by step. At Accredit Solutions, safety and security sit at the heart of what we do. We understand what it means to protect not just places, but people – and we stand alongside every venue committed to making their space safer. Because this isn’t just a legal requirement. It’s a moral one.
